After two years documenting environmental stories as a botanist and photographer, Ayomitunde is launching a visual investigation into how climate change affects people living with albinism in Nigeria. As global temperatures rise and weather patterns grow unpredictable, persons with albinism (PWA) face increasing risks. Their heightened sensitivity to sunlight makes them especially vulnerable to extreme heat and ultraviolet exposure, leading to a surge in skin cancer, the leading cause of death among African albinos. Limited healthcare access, late diagnosis, and financial barriers worsen their situation, while government neglect leaves them without proper support. Beyond physical hardship, damaging myths persist, including the belief that albinos should avoid salt. Through this project, Ayomitunde aims to explore the intersection of climate change, health, and social stigma, visually amplifying the experiences of PWAs to foster understanding, challenge stereotypes, and advocate for greater awareness and protection.
