What Protection Looks Like

Out with a friend and his girlfriend to see a stage drama about a man who kidnaps a girl and raises her to be his bride (at the New Cultural Studio, Mokola). This photo, taken at the venue in Ibadan, carries a different kind of tension, one of quiet protection. The man’s gaze as I raised my camera said it all: he’d do anything for her.
