Arugba Kori

Arugba Kori

Kori Koto is an unpopular but yet highly venerated deity in the Orisa pantheon and is worshipped by a sect of Egbe who are devoted to her. She is venerated for her role in fertility, childbirth and protection against premature death, accidents, and woe, while also blessing adults with longevity, prosperity, and protection. This dear Orisa holds a special place in the pantheon for its specific focus on the beginning and the safeguarding of the most vulnerable members of the community. Her benevolence also ripples to agricultural fertility as well. She is celebrated predominantly in certain Yoruba communities, like Ejigbo, Lagos being among them where she plays a central role in festivals such as Yemoja’s annual observance. Orisa Kori's igba is a spectacle of children's toys, mirrors, balloons, hair comb a symbolism of the benevolence of motherhood. This is Photo of a Male Arugba (Votary Maid)
